Announcement: Upcoming Events

Hi all,

A few quick announcements about upcoming events!

Webinar on canine pancreatitis

I will be hosting a webinar tomorrow evening (Thursday, 11/10) through the Fenzi Dog Sports Academy, all about pancreatitis in dogs – what causes it, what to expect at your vet’s office if you think your dog might have it, and what we know about preventing future episodes in dogs who are prone to recurrence.

**Note: you DO NOT have to attend the webinar live, if it doesn’t fit with your schedule.  As long as you’re registered, a recording will be available for you to watch at your convenience.  But, you do need to make sure to register BEFORE the webinar date, as it won’t be available for purchase afterwards.**

Cost for the webinar is $19.95.  Registration link is here: FDSA webinar page

Puking, Painful, and Puny-Looking: The Ins and Outs of Canine Pancreatitis

Thursday, November 10th – 6 pm Pacific time (9 pm Eastern)

Pancreatitis is one of the most common GI problems we see in dogs – if your own dog has ever had it, it’s likely you won’t forget the experience! Unfortunately, there are also a lot of misconceptions out there regarding what we know about this disease, and what we don’t.

What’s the difference between acute and chronic pancreatitis? How do we diagnose it? Are some dogs more prone to it than others? And if it *does* happen, are there things we can do to help reduce the risk of future recurrence?

In this webinar, we’ll discuss the following:

  • Causes – dietary changes, genetics, other??
  • Clinical signs to watch for
  • What to expect at the vet’s office
  • Preventing future episodes

Take the mystery out of this sometimes puzzling medical problem, and find out how you can be better prepared to help your dog if the need arises.

Cooperative Care Conference – Panel Discussion

I’m excited to be taking part in FDSA’s upcoming Cooperative Care Conference this Saturday (November 12th) as a panelist for a group discussion on how we can make veterinary visits as easy and low-stress as possible for our dogs.

You can find all the conference info here, including registration details and full listing of speakers/topics. It’s all online, so feel free to attend in your PJs from the comfort of your sofa! As with FDSA’s webinars, if you can’t attend live, you’ll have access to the recordings to watch afterwards on your own schedule.

Six-week FDSA class on behavior issues in dogs

Finally, I will be running my online class (Normal, Or Not? Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Behavioral Disorders) again this winter, starting on December 1st! This class goes into all the fun, nitty-gritty details of how we diagnose and treat behavior problems in dogs – including examples of common issues we tend to see and discussion of what causes them, how we can use management and behavior modification techniques to improve problem behaviors over time, and the role of medication in the treatment of behavior issues in dogs.

This will be the third time I’ve run this class, and we’ve had a great group of students with lots of active discussion of the class topics for both previous sessions. So, I anticipate another awesome time with this one!

You can find all the details about how the class works and how to sign up here. FDSA registration for the December term opens on November 22nd.
